The Status of Water Trading in New South Wales

On 20 December 2022, the NSW Parliament tabled a report on the status of water trading in NSW, outlining their key findings and recommendations.

The final report made 2 findings, alongside 10 recommendations about how the committee believes that Water Trading in the State can be improved. The NSW government is required to respond to this report by 20 March 2023.

The recommendations made surround the following themes:

  • Trading
  • Market Transparency
  • Unified platform
  • Governance
  • Water Trading Rules
  • Collaboration across the Murray-Darling Basin

Many of the themes discussed in this report are not dissimilar to those discussed in the ACCC report (2021) and the Water market reform: final roadmap report by Daryl Quinlivan (2022).

Throughout the release of these reports, Waterfind has remained supportive of any changes and efforts made to make the water market more transparent, regulated, and efficient. This includes Waterfind ensuring that all funds used for trading are placed into an externally audited trust account, for your peace of mind.

Waterfind is proud to be the only Water Brokerage firm that offers quality assured and audited trust accounts for all water dealings, sucessfuly completing over 70 audits across 18 years.
